QAL & Book Review

Have you been participating in our Patchwork City Quilt-A-Long?   This month we are working on Kiosk (pg 82) and Parking Meters (pg 84)  There are no known errors in this months block selection.  Check out our QAL page for more details.

At our February meeting we had a book review by Lori Anthonsen.  She reviewed the book Dear Quilty by Mary Fons.  This book shares the history of quilting in America with its highs and lows along with the start of the modern quilt movement.  Of course, it also has some great modern quilt patterns.  Lori gave this book a thumbs up!

Just a friendly reminder about our sew-in this Saturday, February 20th at Canvas Works in Olympia from 10am-4pm.  Contact person for this event is Patti Winfield.

Bring your sewing machine & current project and join us for an afternoon of fun.   This would be a good time to work on your improv quilt for Arts Walk that is coming up in April.

Brick Swap

Guild members participated in a Bricks Swap for our February meeting.  Each member that wished to participate was asked to bring 5"x 10" bricks in a modern print and a coordinating solid.  There were 21 participants total.  Here is a picture of the awesomeness swapped.

Now we each have to decide what to do with these bricks.  Will we add them to our scrap stash?  Will we turn them into a quilt, tote, pillow or other fun project?  Perhaps we will break them up and use them in several quilts.  Do you have any ideas?  What would you do with this collection of bricks?

Our next swap will be a scrappy tote.  All members who want to participate in the swap are asked to bring a bag of their own scraps with at least 2 yards of fabric in there.  Scraps at least 2" up to 1 yard are acceptable.  You will get a bag of somebody else's scraps in return.  Use those scraps to make a tote for the person using their own scraps.  Bring your scraps to the March meeting.  Totes will be swapped at the May meeting.

We had our first "picture only" quilter's showcase this month.  After a few hiccups with the projector we were able to enjoy Patti's collection of fabulous quilts.  Thank you Patti for sharing part of your quilting history with us.

Members also brought in their projects to share with us.  It's always a favorite part of the meeting as we celebrate what we have accomplished recently.  First up, a couple of charity quilts.  Members each create a block following the instructions given and bring them to the next meeting.  One person takes the blocks and sews them together however she likes.  Another person quilts the layers together and finally another member binds the quilt before sending it off to one of the charities our guild supports.
