January Meeting Recap

 January 2017 Meeting

Quiltcon charity quilt status: the quilt is made and longarmed, just awaits binding. Due at February meeting.

Reminder: $45 dues due in January.  There is a PayPal link on the SSMQG blog or bring a check or cash next month to Patti.

Next board meeting is Monday, January 23 at Haggen in West Olympia.  (1313 Cooper Point Rd SW, Olympia, WA 98502) Come on down!!

Arts Walk Challenge – fat quarters of fabric were available today.  Quilts can be any size up to queen.  You must use a ruler or template (but not use just a regular ruler to cut strips, the intent is to use a template you rarely/never use).  You can use any other fabric from your stash.  Due at April meeting.

Quilt Along quilts were due tonight and shown.  Great stuff!  Ten quilts were presented, all really different and interesting.  See the group’s Facebook site for pictures. (Pics might also be on the blog.)

2017 Quilt Along: it is a mystery quilt that is more traditional than modern.  (You can cheat and look on the internet.)  Directions were passed out with fabric requirements.  No need to buy new fabric, you can make it scrappy.  The QAL will last about 7 months.  Kathy will put a link on the blog and Facebook for more info.  (First month is just cutting.)  It’s flying geese, half-square triangles, and blocks. Pretty easy.

Committees signups went around.  The more people who sign up, the more fun we’ll have this year!

Bethany handed out receipts for 501(c)3 donations for our charity quilts, in case you itemize your taxes.  You cannot deduct time, but you can deduct cost of materials.  The guild’s address is Patti’s address.  Email her at to get that. The group’s EIN is 800932951. Keep store receipts for the fabric you use for supporting documentation because the government-assigned value for quilts is like $40.  (Thermal receipts fade in 2 months, so scan or photocopy them.)

Sew-in schedule:
Jan 14 at Whalen Quiltworks, 11-4
Feb 11 at Canvas Works, 11-4
Mar 25 at Ruby Street, 10-5
There’s no cost, bring your own projects.  If we ever have a sew-in with a theme (like working on a charity quilt), we’ll let you know ahead of time. Bring water bottles, lunch, and/or visit one of the happy restaurants nearby.

Stephanie’s quilt was accepted to QuiltCon!!  She rocks!!
